Things That I Grieve For – List Poem
Things That I Grieve For
all the lost sleep, because I’d never know what beguiling dreams they held / stillborn poems (aka poems that die inside my disillusioned mind before they reach paper) / the smooth-flowing pen that makes someone else happy now / untouched piano keys / the missed crimson sunsets and full moon nights because I was processing someone else’s dreams than returning home on time / my 2006 diary that contained all my innocence / my lost passion for Bharatanatyam, for which my grandparents strived / the palm tree in my backyard that I forgot to photograph before it was cut down / the lost mixtape cassette / the ‘me’ who didn’t put you in all the list poems / the ‘me’ I loved so much / the ‘me’ who never mistook all her sunny days as a warning for impending doom / the ‘me’ who knew what she wanted in her life.
