Nostalgia Chimes and I Answer Her Calls – Villanelle
I can’t dislodge from the arms of my past
Memories build a honeycomb in my heart
What is it that makes nostalgia last?
Evermore longings under skies overcast
Delving deeper and deeper into art
I can’t dislodge from the arms of my past
This yearning, this mourning, a sea so vast
I can’t find a plausible way to part
What is it that makes nostalgia last?
Reminisces turn into my breakfast
Oh, where are the buttons to restart?
I can’t dislodge from the arms of my past
My present always looks like a miscast
I can’t draw my daily life on a flow-chart
What is it that makes nostalgia last?
I am tied to these fragments with a holdfast
Set them ablaze to tear me apart
I can’t dislodge from the arms of my past
What is it that makes nostalgia last?
