NaPoWriMo Day 30 – The Last April Afternoon
i.
Only a poet can enjoy
the felicity of devouring
salted-caramel-brownie ice cream
on the apartment’s balcony,
with the silence of the April afternoon
melting into the layer of chocolate,
and the soporific breeze
punctuating the unceasing solitude.
ii.
Somewhere out there, a woman enjoys
a much-needed siesta,
quelling the traffic in her mind.
Somewhere out there, a tree’s root
grows by one millimetre.
Somewhere out there, a bird is calling out
to its long-lost lover,
with its voice attaining a new scar.
But amidst this tranquillity,
I am the stillness.
I become the moment.
iii.
Only a mummy poet can understand
the relief of spending a few minutes
with an ice cream cone on the balcony,
away from all the chaos,
undeterred, blissfully unaware,
lost in soul-searching thoughts for a while.
