NaPoWriMo Day 27 – Belonging (Haibun)

Every night, I invent a new story about Johnny Bear to narrate to my daughter. Though she thinks that it is an imaginary bear, I know for sure that a big brown bear is on the prowl in the nearby forest. A few days later, we go on a safari through the forest to spot Johnny Bear. Morning bleeds into afternoon bleeds into the evening, but there’s no sign of the bear. Dismayed, we return home. To our shock, we find that someone had broken in through the front door. We cautiously step inside our home only to find huge footprints of a bear leading to the bedroom and back from the bedroom to the hall. We tread towards the bedroom, making sure that we don’t make any noise. We peek inside. But there’s no sign of the bear anywhere. Maybe it had left by the time we reached home.
