NaPoWriMo Day 24 – I’m a Poet and Sometimes I’m Still Afraid To Write It All
Not a day passes without
my heart constricting or
my lips quivering to
spill every square inch
of my life into my
poems. Every day could
be a battlefield, every
hour a symphony or
a scathing elegy.
But I’m scared to write it all.
I’m afraid if I scratch
this oft-massacred skin
bitter truths would scamper
towards my poems as
if they are safe havens.
But sometimes I let my
voice scream about what it
is to be a woman
with desires and secrets.
What else makes me a poet
if not the bloodstains on
my cracking palms?
