Mad Girl’s Love Song – Villanelle
Mad girl’s love song
(after Sylvia Plath)
I couldn’t love you without a constant dread.
Oh, how I wish I had met you before!
I think I made you up inside my head.
I was drawn into this intense seabed.
And I always struggled to reach the shore.
I couldn’t love you without a constant dread.
The moon flew down to witness how I bled.
With my soul, heart, body, and mind I swore.
I think I made you up inside my head.
Like an infection that insane love spread.
In my throat was a perpetual roar.
I couldn’t love you without a constant dread.
You’d never know about the tears I shed.
I lost a part of me, I couldn’t restore.
I think I made you up inside my head.
I never knew how to untie the thread.
Unreturned love was a nasty trap door.
I couldn’t love you without a constant dread.
I think I made you up inside my head.
