A Rejector’s Plea – Villanelle

A Rejector’s Plea – Villanelle

The mountains will not mourn your sorrow.
Neither will they share your dwindling pain.
The hands of time are pointing tomorrow.

This winding, shiny path is too narrow.
Your full-flowered love is going in vain.
The mountains will not mourn your sorrow.

This truth is a difficult pill to swallow.
Darling, this is an unwashable stain.
The hands of time are pointing tomorrow.

Don’t you become a weeping willow.
I pray you don’t face this ache again.
The mountains will not mourn your sorrow.

This heartbreak is surely not your shadow.
Flush, flush, flush it into that steep drain.
The hands of time are pointing tomorrow.

Throw your hope outside the open window.
Drown your woes with a swig of champagne.
The mountains will not mourn your sorrow.
The hands of time are pointing tomorrow.
